Cite While You Write

Installing Cite While You Write

The Cite While You Write (CWYW) feature allows you to easily insert your EndNote references and format citations and bibliographies in a Microsoft Word document. This section shows how to use CWYW in Word, formatting a bibliography, importing a bibliography, and abbreviations for APA.

When you install EndNote on your computer, an EndNote menu is automatically added to your Microsoft Word toolbar. It should be visible on the Word menu in an EndNote tab. If the Cite While You Write plug-in does not appear in Word, download the plug-in from EndNote Web. To do this, go to myendnoteweb.com > Format > Cite While You Write™ Plug-In. See below for the EndNote 21 tab in Word.

Important Note: EndNote can format citations quickly; however, they may not always be accurate. EndNote is limited to using the information provided from databases to format citations. This information may not always be formatted per your citation style’s standards. We encourage you to check each reference to ensure it is cited correctly according to your citation style.
