Items Owned by Another Library (ILL's or InterLibrary Loans)
The third type of item we check out at the Circulation Desk are ILL items. These are very similar to EZBorrow items, they are just received through a different system. The main differences from checking in a Gumberg Library owned item are as follows:
- Instead of scanning the barcode attached to the actual item, we scan the barcode on the orange band wrapped around the cover of the book. An example is shown below:
- When scanning the barcode, type "'b" before the barcode. Sierra will not recognize the item if "b" is not typed before the barcode.
- The item due date will appear in Sierra. Before giving the patron the item, stamp the due date on the book-band in the field shown below:
- If you pull an item from the 'HoldShelf' and there is already a date written here, do not Stamp an additional date. You can check the item out (remember to type "b" before the barcode) and give the item to the patron.
- You will see another date written toward the bottom of the book-band. This date will already be filled in, and should be used when revising the 'HoldShelf.' Once this date has arrived or passed, we pull the item from the 'HoldShelf' so it can be returned to the library that lent us the item.
Once the item is checked out, and the due date is written on the book-band, it can be "desensitized" and given to the patron.
