Sierra How-To Guide: Editing User Information

Editing a User Record

Editing user records: First, look up the user account. When the user record comes up, click the Edit button under the Function menu.

A new window will open, with the user's data. Here, we see the record for the Test Undergraduate.

Editing fixed fields: The top information (above the scroll bar) contains fixed fields. These are fields that are predefined in Sierra. Most of these fields are populated by our data feed from the registrar and you will never have to change them.

However, you may have to change the PTYPE (patron type) when registering an alumnus. If the alumnus' student account is still in the system, you may change the PTYPE to Gumberg Alumni to change their borrowing privilege. To do this, double click in the field. A new window will appear with all the different PTYPES available.

All of Gumberg's PTYPES start with Gumberg. In this case, click on PTYPE 150, Gumberg Alumni, and click Ok.

Click Save/Close to save the data. The PTYPE has been updated.

Editing variable fields: You may need to edit one of the variable length fields. For example, an alumnus could provide an updated email address.

To edit one of these fields, simply click in the field and edit the text.

Click Save/Close to save the changes.

Next, we will review checking materials back into the library.
