Guide to Persistent Links

Persistent links ensure that a webpage is always accessible from any learning environment, whether on or off-campus. Other names include deep links, durable links, stable links, stable URLs, shareable links or permalinks.

Persistent links should be used when sharing an article, eBook, or video on Canvas, syllabi, social media, or within groups.

Some databases have "toolboxes" which can be helpful when you are looking for a persistent link:

Icons shaped like chains or clipboards usually generate a persistent linkPersistent Link icon.

Email iconWhen a permalink is unavailable, you can look for email icons, which will allow you to send the article's URL via email.

The process for finding persistent links can vary from each database. For directions on how to create persistent links in additional databases, view the Gumberg Library guide to Persistent Links.
