Borrowing Materials:

  • Print Reserves are arranged by professor's last name. Ask for the items at the library's Circulation Desk. Print reserves can be checked out for limited circulation times, are generally library use only, and can be renewed one time.
  • Electronic Reserves are posted on Gumberg Library's Course Reserves site. You will need the password provided by your professor to access e-reserve materials on the page for your course.
  • Media Equipment is available to designated users permitted by the Media Department. These items must be reserved prior to checkout and can be borrowed for up to two days at a time.
  • Anatomical Models are available to students majoring in Health Sciences/Health related fields. These items must be reserved prior to checkout and may be borrowed for up to four hours, once per day.

For Instructors:

Scan & Deliver is a free service for current Duquesne University students, faculty, and staff to request a digital scan be created for a portion of an item, such as one book chapter or one article, that is otherwise only available in print from Gumberg Library’s general collection.

What materials are eligible for Scan & Deliver?

  • One article per journal issue
  • One chapter per book, up to 50 page as long as it does not exceed fair use guidelines.

**Fair use and other applicable copyright law rights and restrictions will be applied to each request**

How do I get started?

  1. After you discover an article or book chapter you need is not available electronically through Gumberg's databases or freely online, consult the Gumberg Library catalog to find out if this item is available in the library’s general print collection.
  2. Log in to ILLiad, your Interlibrary Loan account
  3. Under New Request, choose the appropriate ILLiad request form:
    1. ARTICLE or
    2. BOOK CHAPTER
  4. Fill in at least the required citation information for the specific item, submit your request

When and how will my scans arrive?

  • Scan & Deliver should not be used for materials you need instantly or within a few hours.
  • Requested items will be delivered electronically within 3 business days. If staffing resources are limited or total requests are high and we are unable to keep this timeframe, we will let you know via your Duquesne University email.
  • You will receive a notification via your Duquesne University email when the item is available. To retrieve your item:
  • Scans will be available via your ILLiad account for 30 days.
  • Requests for material not currently available from the collection will be requested through Interlibrary Loan and may take longer.

What scan quality can I expect?

  • Legible scans at 300 DPI. Color scans will be provided when possible.
