The Gumberg Library has many physical copies of healthcare narratives, and you can use DUQSearch to find these narratives. You can limit your search by disease, use search terms to limit the author of the narrative to either a patient or a physician, or even use both limitations through an advanced search.
Once at the Advanced Search page, you'll have to enter search terms. A list of possible key search terms is below, but feel free to explore possible searches on your own.
illness OR disease | autism |
cancer | physician |
HIV OR AIDS | nurses |
narratives | bipolar disorder |
lived experience | public opinion |
Using "AND" in your search between terms will pull materials where both terms show up and using "OR" in your search will show materials where either one of the two terms is available. You can use the separate fields to organize your key search terms more clearly. DUQSearch will return results of many different formats including scholarly articles and video tutorials. To find book narratives, try limiting your search to printed books and eBook collections.
Note how many different key terms can be used to reference the same population. You can decide which professions you would like to include in your search. By selecting the right key terms, you will be able to narrow your search to the most relevant results while also ensuring that your search will include all the results that may be related but use different vocabulary. You can learn more about how to refine your search in DUQSearch with this guide.
