Systematic Reviews

A guide directing researchers on the systematic review process. Layout based on Doing a Systematic Review: A Student's Guide, 2nd Edition, by Angela Boland, M. Gemma Cherry, and Rumona Dickson.

Developing a Protocol

After finalizing the research question, create and "publish" a review protocol before starting the literature search.

The protocol includes:

  • Inclusion and exclusion criteria
  • Eligibility
  • Search strategy
  • How you plan to assess the studies

For more information on how to write a protocol, check out Gumberg's Evidence Synthesis Protocol Library Guide.
