After you've completed Full Text Review, the next step in your review is Extraction. During extraction, you will decide what data is relevant for analysis from the relevant studies you've identified in the previous steps. In Covidence, extraction happens in five key steps:
Depending on what template style you selected during the review set up stage (see the Setting Up Your Review page of our libguide for more information) the extraction process will slightly differ. The Extraction 1 template is only for systematic reviews, while Extraction 2 template is recommended for all other reviews.
Before you can begin extraction, you must create a data extraction template and publish it. Covidence creates an easy to use template for you to utilize in this stage. On your Review Summary page, click to open the Extraction section. Click the blue Continue button and click the blue Create data extraction template in the upper right hand corner.

The template, that follows PICO framework, will open up and is now ready to be customized.

Once you are done filling out all five sections of your template, you are ready to publish it! Click the blue Publish template button is the upper right hand corner to save all changes that you've made.

You are now ready to begin the data extraction process.
