Embase Basics

In addition to Quick Search, Embase offers several more advanced search types for particular information needs. 

No matter which search type you use, you will be able to use filters to narrow your results on the results page. 

On any search page, click "search tips" on the right side for helpful information specific to that search type.

PICO: allows for searching by population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and study design

  • Search for randomized controlled trials of individuals with psychosis that compared positive symptoms between recipients of Vraylar and recipients of a placebo

PV Wizard: enables straightforward creation of pharmacovigilance (PV) and literature monitoring queries

  • Search for published reports of adverse reactions to Vraylar in pregnant women

Advanced: helps you easily build a complex search query with several commonly used restriction categories

  • Quickly build a search query to find in-press articles about randomized controlled trials of Vraylar in women

Drug: functions like advanced search, but with drug-specific limiting options like drug subheadings and administration types

  • Build a search query to find resources about adverse drug reactions or drug interactions involving orally-administered Vraylar in humans

Disease: functions like advanced search, but with disease-specific limiting options like disease subheadings

  • Build a search query to find English-language conference papers about the etiology of psychosis

Device: functions like advanced search, but with disease-specific limiting options like device subheadings

  • Build a search query to find reviews of economic aspects of Pacemakers

Article: helps you find specific articles if you know basic information about them

  • Find articles about Vraylar authored by WR Earley

Authors: helps you find the full name of an author if you know part of their name and/or their affiliation, and then to find papers by that author

  • Find the full name of an author associated with Allergan whose first name is Willie, and view papers by that author
