Interpreting Search Results in PEDro
When you search in PEDro, you’ll see a list of studies with key details. Here’s what to look for:
- Title: The name of the study. Click it to see more details.
- Type of Study: This tells you what kind of research it is (e.g., randomized controlled trial, systematic review, clinical guideline).
- Score (/10): A number from 0 to 10 showing how well the trial was designed and reported. Want to learn more about PEDro scores? Click the PEDro Scale tab in the navigation menu or visit the PEDro Scale page here.
Common Study Types You'll See:
-
Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT):
Participants are randomly assigned to different treatments. This is usually considered the gold standard for testing interventions.
-
Systematic Review:
A summary of all the research on a topic, using strict methods to combine results. Great for getting an overarching view of a topic.
-
Clinical Practice Guideline:
Recommendations for best practice based on evidence and expert consensus.
Why doesn't everything have a PEDro Score?
- Only Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) are rated in this manner. The scale is specifically designed to assess the methodology of RCTs. Systematic reviews or clinical practice guidelines are included in PEDro but not rated.
- Newly added trials may appear before they have been rated.
