EndNote: Install & Set-Up

A guide to using EndNote, your new favorite citation manager!

EndNote 21 is here!

The newest version of EndNote (21) is now available for students, faculty, and staff to use.

Gumberg recommends updating to EndNote 21 if you are using an earlier version. Please note:

  • Updating to EndNote 21 should not affect your existing library, but consider archiving your library before you download 21 just to be safe
  • Once you know that EndNote 21 is working, uninstall your previous version of EndNote
  • Contact EndNote Technical Support (855-258-5858; M-F, 24 hours/day) if you have trouble with the update

Duquesne owned computers: Open Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Mac) and click "Install" to download EndNote 21 to your device.

Student or personal computers: EndNote 21 is available for download in the Software Catalog

Follow these four steps to set up EndNote!

Step One: Download and Install EndNote 21

The Installation Instructions below will guide you through the download and installation process for Duquesne's official version of Endnote 21.

Note: This version of Endnote x21 is downloaded through Box. You will not need to add the license key to activate this version; the license key is already embedded in the installer.

Installation instructions may feature images from EndNote 20 as the setup is identical.

Step Two: Create a New Library

  1. Click "File," then "New..."
  2. Use the default file name or change it, then click save.
  3. The library will open in EndNote.

Step Three: Create a Sync Account

A Sync Account enables your library to sync with Endnote web so you can manage your citations from any device. A sync account is also required to share a library.

Step Four: Setting up Find Full Text

The fourth step is optional, but useful. Find Full Text downloads PDFs from our databases and attaches them to the citations for easy access and offline reading.
