These inclusions are made in order to show the creative direction and philosophy of the Bloomsbury Group


The Memoir Club is a painting done by Vanessa Bell, depicting a gathering among the Bloomsbury members, usually denoted as the beginning of the Bloomsbury.

G. E. Moore (1873-1958)

Photo of G. E. MooreThough not a member of the Bloomsbury Group, his work Principia Ethica (1903) was a strong influence in the Group's thinking. He was also associated with the Cambridge Apostles, through which he became closely acquainted with many of the Bloomsbury members.


Lady Ottoline Morrell (1873-1938)

Photo of Lady Ottoline MorrellLady Morrell was an aristocrat and society hostess, and her patronage extended to artistic and intellectual circles. Members of the Bloomsbury Group were well-acquainted with her, and attended her parties at the Garsington Manor.

Bertrand Russell (1872-1970)

Photo of Bertrand RussellPrincipia Mathematica, which he co-written with A. N. Whitehead, was an influential work among the Bloomsbury members. He was a member of the Cambridge Apostles, through which he became acquainted with G. E. Moore. He referred to Roger Fry as a Cambridge friend; other Bloomsbury Apostles encountered Russell as a mathematical philosopher.
