Find Books (Print & Ebooks)

  • Book-length secondary works are major sources of information in the study of literature.
  • Find these using the DUQSearch online catalog (print or ebooks) or the Classic Catalog (print books only). Learn about Searching DUQSearch. Learn about Searching the Classic Catalog
  • Click the following link to learn how to search for books (print and electronic) in every discipline: How to Use the DUQSearch Online catalog to Find Print and Ebooks in Every Discipline
  • Many research guides contain links that run preset book searches in the DUQSearch online catalog
  • Ebooks can be accessed from anywhere by entering your Multipass username and password when prompted
  • To find a print book on the shelves, you need the book's unique call number, which you will find on the DUQSearch catalog record. If you are not sure how to find a book call number in the library stacks, you can stop at the front desk and ask for assistance
  • WorldCat, the world's largest library catalog--Indexes the holdings of many thousands of libraries around the world--Contains metadata for many millions of books and other types of materials. WorldCat is useful in that is shows you what books exist on a subject, not just what is available in a given library. Books found on WorldCat can probably be borrowed through ILLiad. If you cannot find a title on WorldCat, it is likely it does not exist.
  • If Gumberg Library does not own or access a book you need, we will buy it, either in print or as an ebook. You can request that the library buy a book either by contacting the library liaison to the English Department, of by using the Suggest A Purchase form.
