Gumberg Library Policies

Philosophy

Gumberg Library follows Duquesne University's privacy policies and relevant government policies. As a library and professionals, we respect and advocate for user privacy. We promote awareness of privacy issues and educate library users to protect their own privacy. We believe  that best practice leaves the user in control of as many choices as possible.

Gumberg Library supports the American Library Association's Code of Ethics and  Interpretation of the Right to Privacy, and the Society of American Archivists Code of Ethics.

Confidentiality of Library Records Policy

Gumberg Library "protects each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired, or transmitted." American Library Association Code of Ethics

Student records, including library borrowing records, are protected by federal and state laws and university policies which library employees must uphold.
