Women in STEM: Vera Rubin

Vera RubinVera Rubin (1928-2016) is the astronomer who discovered dark matter. She studied spiral galaxy rotation curves at the Carnegie Institute of Washington. She received the National Medal of Science in 1993, as well as many other awards and is widely thought to have been snubbed for the Nobel Prize. She also worked to open up opportunities for women in science.
