Framework for Information Literacy: Introduction

This guide is an introduction to the Framework for Information Literacy and how it can impact our understanding of the information environment.

The Framework for Information Literacy, developed by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in 2015 and approved in 2016, provides interrelated concepts that allow individuals to better understand, critique, create, and engage with information. These concepts are organized into six frames, which are:

  • Authority Is Constructed and Contextual
  • Information Creation as a Process
  • Information Has Value
  • Research as Inquiry
  • Scholarship as Conversation
  • Searching as Strategic Exploration

This guide will address these concepts and how they impact the research process
