The Duquesne University Library became Gumberg Library in 1995, named after alumni Stanley Gumberg, and has continued to adapt to fit the needs of our students and the campus community.
The building has seen a lot of changes over the years, but it is making good on Dr. Puglises's promise that it would be the last library building for a long time. Periodic upgrades to lighting and furniture revitalized our spaces and created new opportunities for collaborative or individual study. Recent additions include of the study pods on Floors 1 and 2, the Whisper Room on Floor 2, our private group study rooms, and upgraded tables and chairs on the patio so patrons can study in the sunshine! As an increased convenience, students can reserve study spaces ahead of time, ensuring their favorite spots are available when they need them.
Our physical book collection was reduced to make way for the Medical Library on the renovated 3rd floor. New books are frequently added to the general collection, including our growing ebook collection; students and faculty are encouraged to suggest items they would like the library to add to the collection. Many resources, including historic newspapers, scholarly articles, and study guides, are available online through our website. More details about our special collections are available here.
The addition of the Library of Things collection offers a chance to supply our students with a wide variety of non-traditional items, including board games, video production equipment, video games, or even a karaoke machine. These sorts of items enhance the student experience while offering money saving opportunities.
The library is always changing, that is the nature of University Libraries. In March 2024, the renovation to the 4th floor of Gumberg Library began. Please follow the exciting renovation updates by visiting this page: Fourth Floor Renovations
