Dorothy L. Sayers was a crime novelist, playwright, translator, critic, and Christian humanist. Sayers was well-acquainted with Lewis and Williams, but never attended Inklings meetings. She was also considered one of the chief writers of the "Golden Age" of detective fiction, producing up to 14 published detective novels and short stories.
John Wain was a poet, novelist, journalist, and critic. He was tutored by C. S. Lewis, and encountered the Inklings. However, he was a realist writer, and did not share the Inklings' interest in fantasy. He was also associated with the literary group The Movement, which included the likes of Phillip Larkin and Elizabeth Jennings.
