New Mothers Room: Gumberg Library

The Gumberg Library is thrilled to support new mothers as they pursue their educational and career aspirations.

All new moms are welcome to visit our New Mother's room in room 506 (5th floor) at the Gumberg Library to bottle, breastfeed, pump, or briefly recover from the high demands of life with an infant or young toddler, in a calming space.

Mothers are welcome to feed, nurse, and care for their children anywhere in the library, but we felt a private space makes families comfortable and the library feel more inclusive.

The key for the New Mothers’ Room is available for Duquesne faculty, staff, students and guests at the Circulation Desk.

The room includes: 1 glider rocking chair, an electrical outlet, low-level lighting, tissues and Clorox wipes.

The room does not include: a refrigerator, a sink, paper towels, pumping equipment (though there is a sink and women's room next to the room).

Diaper changes: Please do not change diapers in this room. Both the men's room and the women's room on the 4th floor have diaper changing stations for your use. These are located adjacent to the elevators at the front of the building.

If you need assistance while in the New Mother's Room, please contact the circulation desk on the 4th floor: 412.396.6130. In the case of an emergency, there is a panic button located on the center of the exterior wall in the room. Pull the cable and Public Safety will be alerted immediately.

*Duquesne University's legally sanctioned Nursing Mother's Room is available to Duquesne students and employees. Details can be found here.
