Continental Philosophy: Limit a Pre-Set Search

On research guides, we often create pre-set links that will search the DUQSearch online catalog so that library users can find books and ebooks without having to know how to use DUQSearch. However, sometimes a pre-set search will bring up a search result that is too large to browse through. Such search results can be modified. Here is how to do this.

When you click a pre-set search link and the search is run, you will see that at the top of the screen the search that retrieved the result will be shown. This search will usually be entered in the first search box.

To limit such a pre-search, simply enter a word or words in the second search box. Leave the menu to the right of the second search box set at "Select a Field (optional)." Then click Search.

In this example we search for a concept and synonyms for that concept using the Boolean operator "OR." This technique will give us a larger relevant result.
