Using Electronic Resources

All about Gumberg's electronic resources

We have a variety of electronic resources at Gumberg Library that you can access online, on campus and off. This guide will help you understand the different types of electronic resources, how to use them, and even DIY troubleshooting tips.

Logging In

On Campus:  While in the library and on campus, always start on the Gumberg Library website and you will only need to log in one time with your MultiPass to access DuqNetDuquesne University's high-speed wireless network that provides wireless connectivity across campus (in most campus buildings and in many outdoor spaces). It's available to the campus community -- your MultiPass also allows you to access DORIBlackboard, email, and Gumberg Library resources

Off Campus:  In order to comply with licensing agreements and/or copyright law, access to many of Gumberg's electronic resources are limited to current students and employees of Duquesne University. If you click on a link to one of our databases, electronic journals, or electronic reserves from an off-campus computer, you may be prompted to enter your MultiPass again.

Ensure you're on Gumberg's website

When you look up resources on Gumberg's website, you are authenticated either by logging in with your MultiPass, or by using an on-campus computer or on-campus provided wireless connection (DuqNet). If you are off-campus and go directly to a database or resource web page (JSTOR, EBSCOhost, etc.), the provider will not know that you are a Duquesne user and may not allow you to access the subscribed content on their site, so you will have to log in again:

You can can confirm you are authenticated by the followings ways, but the best way to be sure is to ALWAYS start your research ON Gumberg's website:

  • the URL should include our "proxy server address tag" (see example below)
  • see that Duquesne is recognized by the website -- our name will be (usually) on the top of the page
