The Gumberg Library hosted a contest for writing Haikus in celebration of the DUQ Reads program that occurred in Spring 2017. The following haikus were chosen for first, second, and third prizes, along with an honorable mention. The DUQ Reads Committee thanks all of its participants for the DUQ Haiku Contest.

choking on a gnat

on a sunny April day

tasting winter's thaw

Cold, dry, dust-filled air.

Self-worth like a rosebush dies.

Hoarse gunshots echo.

Live, do not exist

Like a tortoise locked away

Struggle for freedom

Dust is blowing hard

It is in your bed all night

It is in your shoes.
