Women in STEM: Marie Maynard Daly

Marie Maynard DalyMarie Maynard Daly (1921-2003) was the first black woman to earn a PhD in chemistry in the US, in 1947. She did important research on cholesterol and how cigarettes affect the lungs, as well as how smoking and sugar affect the heart. Marie also worked to increase diversity in science, setting up a scholarship for African American students to attend Queens College.
