Michael Chabon: A Research Guide: Home

Born in Washington, DC, and now living in Berkeley, CA, Michael Chabon lived in Pittsburgh for a time in his youth and received his BA from the University of Pitttsburgh His first two novels, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh (1988) and Wonder Boys (1995) are both set in Pittsburgh, and each has been turned into a movie. To date, Chabon is the author of 14 books. His novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (2000) won the Pulitzer Prize in 2001. He has a love for genre fiction and has woven elements of these popular genres into his more literary works. Examples of this are Gentlemen of the Road (2007), a swashbuckling adventure tale that originally was published serially in the New York Times Magazine, and The Yiddish Policeman's Union (2007), a mystery set in an alternate future which won the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards for science fiction. He has also written The Final Solution (2004), a detective novel in which the unnamed protagonist resembles Sherlock Holmes. Along with novels, Chabon has written short fiction, essays, children's books, and has worked in comic books. He even had a hand in writing a version of the script of the Sam Raimi film Spider-Man 2. His most recent novel, Moonglow (2016), in which he explores the lives of his maternal grandparents, has garned much critical acclaim, and was named best novel of the year by the Wall Street Journal.
