Going Green: Double-Sided Printing

FAQ

My professor sent me PowerPoint slides as a PDF. How can I still print multiple pages per sheet?

Well what if it's just a regular PDF document that I want multiple pages on one sheet?

Digital Documents

Below are several cloud-based alternatives for storing and saving your digital files. As free online services, these web tools can save you time and paper!

Printing Options

If Gumberg wants to save paper, why isn't double-sided printing the default?

It's a question we hear a lot. And the answer isn't as easy as we'd like it to be. At this time, a whole-sale switch to double-sided printing poses a number of issues for the university, including:

  • Extra wear on the printers, which could result in jamming and lost print jobs in the short term and in the long term could necessitate frequent maintenance or outright replacement

  • Additional toner usage, resulting in greater costs (toner is significantly more expensive than paper)

  • Slower printing, resulting in longer waits and, likely, an increase in unclaimed print jobs

What's a person to do?

If you have to print, and wish to reduce paper waste, it takes just a moment to configure the settings to print on both sides of a page. Check out the slide show below for help with that.

The greenest way to print, however, is to avoid printing altogether :)

We understand that most instructors will want hard copies of your term papers. But for research articles, slide shows, and other documents, there are plenty of digital alternatives.

Try using Dropbox, GoogleDrive, OneDrive, Zotero, or Mendeley. In addition to curbing wasteful habits, most of these offer enhanced functionality, making it easier to search, organize, notate and cite your research.
