The title Gathered Fragments originated with the motto of Pittsburgh diocesan historian Msgr. Andrew A. Lambing (1842-1918) -- "Gather up the fragments [of history] that remain lest they be lost" -- which was taken from the Gospel of St. John 16:12 and adopted as the Society's journal name in December 1986.
The Catholic Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania promotes the teaching and dissemination of the history of the Catholic Church in Western Pennsylvania and in the United States. It also preserves the records and artifacts documenting the history of the Catholic Church in Western Pennsylvania.
