Women in STEM: Hypatia

HypatiaHypatia (370-415) lived in Alexandria and was the first known female scientist and mathematician. Her works have not survived, but they have been documented by other ancient writers. Hypatia was also a philosopher and may have invented several scientific instruments. She was murdered by an angry mob in the year 415, but her legacy lives on - she had a place setting in Judy Chicago's iconic work The Dinner Party and has a journal named after her.
