Finding Print Books:

ILLiad Interlibrary Loan - borrow books or journal articles from other libraries. Gumberg will mail books to you free of charge, but you are responsible for paying to mail it back. Articles are sent electronically. (When you register for ILLiad, be sure to indicate "GraduateDistance" as your Status.)

WorldCat - Online catalog to search the collections of over 10,000 libraries worldwide. You can then link to ILLiad to request an interlibrary loan.

 

For students in the Pittsburgh area:

Quick Search - Duquesne University Gumberg Library online catalog

E-ZBorrow - borrow books from libraries in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and West Virginia region when items are not available through Gumberg Library

On-Site Borrowing - allows you to check out books from other Pittsburgh area libraries, such as the University of Pittsburgh Library System or the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, if you do not have a library card. You must visit the Gumberg Library Reference Desk to get the pass.Borrowing from

Suggest a Purchase - If you believe that Gumberg Library could benefit from owning a book that you cannot find, fill out the form to suggest the purchase. Remember, the process will take time and you should find an alternate source for the book if you require it quickly.

Different libraries use different classification systems for organizing their materials. The two systems you are most likely to encounter are the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classification, which is often used by hospital libraries, and the Library of Congress (LC) classification, which is typically used by academic and large public libraries.
