Borrowing From Other Libraries: Request an article through ResearchGate?

Why am I being asked to request an article through ResearchGate?

Why am I being asked to request an article through ResearchGate?

You may receive an email from the ILL department that says you can request an article through ResearchGate for full-text access. This means that you are able to create a ResearchGate account (or use your existing account) to request a direct download from the article's author.

Some authors will allow for their research to be directly downloaded from their account page with your logged in account, like this example:

When you encounter the Download button, you are able to freely access the full-text article from the author.

You may also be required to request an article through ResearchGate when the author provides the full-text, but requires a direct user request to access it. Refer to the following example:

If the article you are seeking has a request full-text option, you can submit a formal request to the author to upload the document and send directly to your ResearchGate account. Authors may take anywhere from a few days, to even a few weeks to respond, but this is one sure way to access full-text articles that the Gumberg library and the ILLiad department are unable to locate.
