Biblical Exegesis: Finding Books in DuCat
This research guide will show you how to find books in the Gumberg Library online catalog, DuCat, on interpreting passages of the Bible.
Getting to the Browse Search
The easiest and quickest way to find all books, whether commentaries or critical works, on books of the Bible is through the Browse search in DuCat.
Click the tab at the top of the page for instructions on how to get to the Browse search screen.
Library of Congress Subject Headings
Unlike the DuCat default search, which is by keyword, the Browse search is a very structured search that requires the use of valid Library of Congress subject headings. To be taken to comprehensive lists of Library of Congress subject headings for books of the Bible, click the tab at the top of the page.
Once you have found the valid subject heading for the book of the Bible your are interested in interpreting, you are ready to employ it in a Browse search.
Types of Books for Biblical Exegesis
There are a number of different types of books that are used in biblical exegesis, including concordances, commentaries, and works of criticism. Click the tab at the top of the page to see an introduction to these.
Doing a Browse Search
